This cabin is romantic and in a perfect location. That said, there were a few issues that prevented us from providing a 5-star review.
Staying on a houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam can be very romantic. We loved sitting in the little room at the top of the boat at the end of the night, watching the reflection of the bridge lights in the water, and the cyclists roll by.
During the day the neighbourhood is lively, but overall very relaxed. If you're from a larger city, the houseboat feels quite quiet, allowing you to sleep in if you've had a longer night before. According to the house rules no one is allowed on the deck after 9pm, so we didn't spend much time on the outside of the boat. That said, the deck is largely occupied by a tangle of tools, supplies, and other things, so it was not appealing to be outside.
Some of the other houseboats we saw have been upgraded to have large modern spaces and amenities, but this is not one. The space is quite small (but absolutely adequate for a few nights) and the washroom is a bit tricky to navigate (the toilet is on a platform).
The inside of the cabin is clean, if under supplied. When we arrived there was only one tea bag and a torn bag of coffee without filters for the brewer. It seems like a very little thing, but I felt it was indicative of the stay. An attempt seemed to have been made at one point, but I believe the hosts are busy and perhaps a bit overwhelmed by their hosting duties.
We arrived late due to train troubles, and were unable to contact our host, as their AirBNB contact online is not the host herself. It was very worrying to be unable to speak with who we needed to. In addition, When we arrived our host was very annoyed with her other guests, who were annoyed with her for a delayed entry. It was a shaky start to a trip that ultimately was quite enjoyable for us.
Overall, I do suggest this space for a couple looking to spend three or four nights on a good valued houseboat in the Jordaan neighbourhood. It's sweet, I'm glad we stayed here, but we will likely look for other accommodation for our next trip to Amsterdam.
