Our home has a lot of unique San Francisco history. Part of the structure of the main house was originally built near Mission Dolores (now Dolores Park) as temporary housing in 1906 after The Great Earthquake. Along with a small handful of remaining homes scattered around San Francisco, it was moved, by horse and carriage, to Eureka St around 1910, when it was purchased for $50. It was sold again in 1926 to David Raff and his wife Rosa, both German immigrants. David and Rosa had four children, including three sons, who as teenagers built a 2 story "club house" in the backyard. The Raff boys' clubhouse has since been renovated, as has the main house, but we still affectionately refer to it as the Raff Cottage.
Our Raff Cottage is conveniently located directly on the border of Noe Valley and the Castro (one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city), a short walk to restaurants and shops on 24th St in Noe Valley, as well as the heart of the Castro and Mission districts. These neighborhoods offer some of the best shopping, dining and nightlife in SF.
The Raff Cottage is quiet and peaceful, and bathed in natural light and completely renovated within the last few years, with recently updated furnishings. We have furnished the Raff Cottage for your comfort:
- new, super comfy queen-sized bed in loft-style bedroom
- new furniture including dining table, sitting area and desk
- updated bathroom and kitchenette
- coffee & espresso maker, tea warmer and blender
- convection oven/microwave and refrigerator
- full dining set
- HDTV flat-screen TV with DirecTV's premium package
- Strong Wifi connection
The Raff Cottage has a private entrance from the street through a landscaped garden and is nestled into the peaceful Noe Valley neighborhood. The Raff Cottage is disconnected from the main house, is quiet and large, lush trees offer privacy. The bedroom is on the second floor, up a spiral staircase from the main floor. Noe/Castro/Mission offers the best weather in SF, and usually (but not always) escapes the fog that is typical throughout the city. The neighborhood is quiet, yet close to the action and there is plenty of street parking right out front.
Local attractions and conveniences:
- Dolores Park (the original location of our home!)
- Fine dining and popular nightlife
- Public transportation: 1 block from bus, train nearby
- Easy access to 280 and 101 Freeways (10 mins)
- Walking distance to corporate bus stops to Silicon Valley
- ample street parking in the neighborhood
Enjoy San Francisco (and a little bit of San Francisco history) or surrounding areas as our guest. Short day trips to wine country, mountains or the beach.
If we are booked, we highly recommend our friends' place, close by in the Mission: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/762300
We are not big on a lot of rules - generally just treat the cottage as if it is your own. The one rule that we are adamant about is no smoking. We do not have pets and prefer that you leave yours at home. Check-in is available at 3pm - if you need any special arrangements, please ask. Check out is at 11am - and again, we'll be as flexible as possible for any special requests.
