If I'm being selfish I'd say to stay away just so I could have this apartment whenever I'm in town! I absolutely loved it. It's exactly as depicted in the photos and was every thing I needed. It's in the heart of all the action, streets always abuzz due to the countless bars and eateries literally downstairs and throughout several of the nearest blocks. Ideal for younger fun seeking travelers, not ideal for older folks looking to relax (especially since there's a mountainous staircase to climb). F and M trains are a block away, lyft is always 3 mins away at most, but you can literally walk to every thing you'd ever need. My only downside, the ceiling/floor between the apartment above is not thick enough for the very active occupants during my stay (if you know what I mean lol). Check in was seamless. I have no complaints about Sonia. I'm literally going to stay here whenever I'm in town...
BACKGROUND: Two of us stayed here for work for 5 weeks during Aug-Sept. This is my 13th AirBnB and our third in NYC. I have lived in NYC before. GOOD: location is amazing! Close to tons of great restaurants, clubs, bars, cafes, delis, groceries, etc. Within 1 block of F,M,J lines which get you all over the city. Within easy walking distance of Chinatown, Little Italy, East Village…you could spend a year living here and never run out of options for food, drink, and shopping. Also, it’s quiet! In fact, it’s one of the quietest places I’ve ever stayed in NYC. The only exception is some occasional nighttime live music from the club downstairs, which is mostly confined to the living room/kitchen. The living room/kitchen noise level also depends a bit on who is renting the adjoining apartment, because those walls are thin. We lucked out with a quiet couple during the first few weeks; the last couple weeks, we got a noisy family. The apt is also well-sealed and the AC works great. We had some 90+ degree days and never noticed it. Apt is super clean and feels very new. Also no sign of bugs, roaches, or rats. Keyless doors are secure and convenient. Neighborhood seemed quite safe. Shower was large, decent water pressure, plenty of hot water. BAD: The AC is pretty noisy, so if you are here during summer, then bring earplugs for sleeping. For you newbies, realize that the LES neighborhood is pretty dirty, grimy, and chaotic (but safe and secure; the streets are always full of people, no signs of crime). Also, the apt was created for short-term rentals. That is, no one actually lives here except us renters. So there is not much basic infrastructure (i.e. not much cleaning supplies, cookware/utensils, extra towels, scissors, etc) and what’s here is pretty entry-level. We left a bunch of useful stuff for the next renters. On the other hand, there isn’t any owner’s stuff cluttering up the place. Also, be aware that there is no oven (only a microwave); she’s clear about this in her ad, but it’s easy to miss. No printer (some NYC airBnB’s have this for tourists to print out tickets, directions, etc.). The outside deck doesn’t have much furniture (just a couple crates), doesn’t get much direct sunlight, or have a view. So we didn’t spend any time out there. But it’s probably great for you smokers out there. UGLY: Internet doesn’t work properly. Both the ad and the owner’s emails insisted that the apt has strong, reliable, high-speed internet. We found this not to be (URL HIDDEN) all. The internet went down several times per day, every day. 20 minutes here, 60 minutes there, sometimes an entire day, sometimes it was on but just really slow, sometimes it would allow just one device to log-on at a time. We notified the host a few times about this, but it never got fixed. Also, when the internet is on, it works mostly in...
Location is great. Noisy but as expected. Sonia was flexible with check in which was great with our early arrival. Apartment is large for New York and bonus having a terrace. Plenty of cookware for eating in. However - Sonia was difficult to reach and didn't get back to us on several occasions. There was a lack of information in the apartment regarding how to use the thermostat and how to use the TV. Listed Days for trash to go out were incorrect. There was no key to lock the door to the terrace or double lock the door when going out. Wi fi was often pretty slow.
