This is a lovely, old Victorian charmer in the heart of the Silk Stocking district. It was withing reasonable walking distance to the Pleasure Pier and the seawall with some nice beaches, and right around the corner from a trolley stop if you venture farther. Of course, with the expansive house and huge number of decks/verandas, you may not want to leave the house at all!
All of our basic needs were met at check in - from soap to toilet paper. There are a few items the kitchen could use, but with such an extraordinary number of amazing seafood restaurants nearby and pizza just a phone call away after a day on the beach, they were not particularly missed - and the coffee pot was fine, so this guest was a happy glamper.
Please pay close attention to the arrangement of the beds/bedrooms. We didn't and were surprised at a couple of things, but it all worked out perfectly. There is a downstairs bedroom with attached 1/2 bath, but that bath is also the only bathroom on the floor so it is not private. Upstairs, the master is large with a king, a huge walk in closet, and a shower and powder room that are not connected. There is a door to block the suite from the rest of the upstairs, but it was an unusual setup (as so many homes from this day are). The middle bedroom upstairs contains 2 bunk beds - 1 full over full, and one twin over full. This was perfect for our family with 3 children and 2 parents. The third bedroom upstairs is a king with a beautiful view down the street.
Upstairs, there are porches off of the front and back of the house, and a petite, cozy nook at the top of the indoor stairs for reading, coffee, or conversation. Downstairs, there is a large den for TV and conversation, a large dining room for a large group, and a living area with a sofa and a couple of chairs for conversation open to the dining room and front door. There are porches surrounding the front door and a beautiful deck out the back door from the kitchen. There is no shortage of space to spread out or come together, whatever your group may want.
Please do note that unless there were accommodations that we did not find, this is not a handicapped accessible home. The front door is several steps up from street level, as are most homes on the island, and while living areas are downstairs, the bedrooms are mostly up, and doors are not wheelchair width in keeping with original Victorian architecture.
