I have had excellent renters who are very respectful of the rules and have taken good care of the cottage. I believe this review is a result of a variety of difficulties we had with Amanda. When I initially inquired about how things were before the trouble started she had indicated that things were "wonderful" and there were no issues with the cottage. To provide some context about the above review, Amanda indicated that she was going to be having a very small, low key wedding ceremony with only a few friends and family members totaling no more than about 16 people including the photographer. She also indicated that there would only be two cars at the cottage and that her close family members were coming in a small shuttle from Grand Bend. Contrary to what I was told, I received reports and complaints from neighbours that they had a huge party and that approximately 25 cars were parked on the cottage lawn and surrounding area. Two neighbours also contacted me about concerns regarding the septic tank given the number of individuals that were present and the stress it would put on that system. When I inquired about the number of individuals at the cottage, she reported that some friends had “surprised” her so there were more people than expected. (It would be difficult to be surprised as the address of the cottage would be required for them to attend). I also received an email of complaint by a neighbour later in the week as there were 4 garbage bags outside and the animals had ripped them apart resulting in an “unpleasant mess”. One of the neighbours cleaned it up and sent me an email about it. (My neighbours are very reasonable and kind individuals and have had made no previous complaints about anyone else). When I inquired about the garbage, Amanda indicated that it did not happen. I found that several house rules were broken and it was very difficult to address because Amanda had a tendency to dismiss any issue that was raised. There was damage to one of the screen doors (screen was ripped) and a closet door in the master bedroom was no longer closing properly and was no longer on the sliding track. Although Amanda did not deny this damage, she was also not interested in coming to a resolution regarding those damages. I found her to be difficult to communicate with as her version of what occurred directly contradicted the account of others. With respect to her critique above, it is acknowledged that lakefront properties are more expensive due to the higher purchase price, property taxes and related costs but the cottage is very comparable with other cottages within the lakefront category. With respect to the comment on the stairs, there are stairs to the beach with a more gradual slope (rather than straight down). There are moon rays to light the path, but the lighting could be better. The cottage is on a bluff, taking advantage of the views from 180 degrees. Hence, stairs are needed to get to the beach and these stairs are in good shape (much better than most). For those who are elderly or very young who have problems with stairs, there is a an easy access point with a well-maintained road just one door down from the cottage. There is also a brand new deck and staircase that was recently added at the beach to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. There is also an outdoor horseshoe pit, crochet set, cards, bridge, puzzles and other games.
