Beautiful redwood mountain home 3000 feet high, overlooking Santa Barbara with a spectacular sunrise to sunset view of mountains, city, ocean and islands. Total serenity, yet 20 minutes to the north end of Santa Barbara and 30 minutes to wine country.
Breathtaking views of ocean, islands, mountains and city from this magical three-story redwood home at the end of a cul-de-sac on 1.38 acres! Walls of glass & 4 decks let you enjoy the spectacular views from sunrise to sunset. Offering privacy in a tranquil mountain setting both dramatic and romantic, this 2,400 sq ft. home is filled with light. Soaring 25’ wood ceilings, an open floor plan, faux walls by Vivencio, wooden floors, hand-painted tiles and a Balinese fireplace mantel are a few extras that make this home unique. This is the home of an artist and writer and is elegantly furnished with art from around the world. Here is an opportunity to stay on top of the world, only 20 minutes from the north end of State Street, 25 minutes to the beach and 30 minutes to the famed Santa Ynez wine country. Quail, wild pigeons, soaring hawks and hummingbirds make this home a bird watcher’s paradise. Surrounding roads are a Mecca for hiking and bicycling. This area was sacred to the Chumash Indians. The California state monument, the Chumash cave known as "Painted Cave" famous for its petroglyphs, was once owned by my husband's family and is a short walk away. Fishing, boating and nature cruises are available at Cachuma Lake, 20 minutes to the east. Santa Ynez is wine tasting country and only 30 minutes away. Nearby historic Cold Springs Tavern offers excellent cuisine morning, noon and night and Sunday afternoon concerts.
Note: The top level of the home, a loft open to the floors below, has a double futon and functions as the third bedroom. The second bedroom has a double bed and the master bedroom has two twin beds and a futon couch that can be used as a bed. There is a garden area below the house with a barbeque you are welcome to use. Access to the garden is through the master bedroom and down the stairs along the side of the house. The homeowners live in a separate apartment with a private entrance on the property--Homestay housing. You won’t know they are there unless you need them. We will be available always by phone or email and generally in person; however, we respect the privacy of guests and will be invisible unless otherwise desired. I am happy to extend check-in and check-out times if there are no other guests booked for the dates you request.
*If you want to bring a pet, please ask first. Thank you.

Guests are given total privacy unless contact is requested.
The two small red chairs in the entry way are strictly decorative as they are too fragile for actual use. The tall wooden chair against the wall near the kitchen pantry also is currently out of commission. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE INDOOR OR OUTDOOR FURNITURE.
Please do not use the garbage disposal for actual food. You can rinse a plate only once the food has been put in the regular garbage. This is because we’ve had to have a plumber come twice now because of incorrect use of the disposal.
If you go out at night, the switch for the light at the top of the stairs is on the light itself.
Please only burn the candles on the dining room table. Other candles are decorative.
The living room coffee table especially is very susceptible to liquid or heat stains. Please use coasters for all beverages on all wood furniture.
Please use the squeegees (window cleaning tool) in each bathroom on the windows after showering.
The control for central heater is on the wall on the left as you enter the master bedroom.
Microwave: set time, set speed, press start (don’t use higher than Medium for cheese)
Washer/dryer area is to the right before entering the master bedroom. Linens and towels are in each bedroom closet.
Three fans are in bedroom closets.
We have Direct TV and a DVD player that need different hook-ups on the back of the TV. See the back of the TV for how to connect. The thinner black remote control is for DVDs. The bigger white remote control is for the TV as well as for volume on the DVD player.
We are not able to use the internet for downloading or uploading. All other use of the computer will not exceed the limit.
Drinking water-- We have well water that is good for drinking.
In case of rain, please bring in the green seats from the deck outside the dining room. The couch seats may remain outside.
If you wish to use the fireplace, please inquire first for instructions.
