When you visit a place for the first time you go to the unknown, we arrived on a Saturday afternoon on June 3 after a three hour ride from Charles De Gaulle Airport, 3 hrs in Immigration and six hour flight from the US; Ad we arrived at Port-en-Bessin-Houpain, we saw a picturesque Normand petite coastal town with a protected harbor and fantastic views of the English Channel. The town was easy to navigate and Sophies place is located on the western edge of town. She has a drive inn road to a parkin area to the left and the two floor building with the guest house units. We had been communicating via text with Sophie and translating using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translator. Sophie was prompt in replying to the text and was waiting for us when we arrived. She had at our request collected information about D-Day festivities as well as local attractions. I can speak a little French and was able to communicated with Sophie. The unit was on the second floor, private entrance and composed as you enter of a kitchen with small refrigerator, stove, sink, coffe maker, hot water heater, microwave and table for four. Off to the left across from entrance was a bedroom with bed that sleeps two, closet and windown (bed was very comfortable); the living room had another bed that sleeps two, TV, and rocking chair. Off the living room was a full bathroom, the water was always hot when needed. Just one mile east on the main road of the driveway, is a Super U supermaketand gas station. You can stroll to town on a short 10 minute walk. Always felt safe, multiple restaurants (make sure you arrive atleast 1 hr prior to closing; 9pm; or you will not be able to get service since they wont accept new costumers as thry start to close business); the location is perfect as you are about 35 minutes from St Mere Eglise and Utah Beach ; and 45 minutes away from Pegasus Biridge at the easter side of Sword Beach. Local route D514 is the road outside of Sophies Place and leads to all locations East/West. We took the route East along to coast to visit all the D-Day sites and the views were magnificent. The price was affordable and for the location absolutely great. I equal it to renting a beach house in New England, peaceful, clean, great host, great location and deserving of multiple visits in the future! Au Revoir Sophie until 2019, 75th Anniversary of D-Day!
