Beautiful and comfortable private home on quiet street, two minutes walk to the beach. We are on the ocean side of the main road on a very quiet residential street. Two minutes walk away are a convenience store, a karaoke bar, a dance bar and arcade. There is also a playground on the corner for those of you with small children.
Here's some info about the house and favorite places to visit.
The beds will all be made and clean when you arrive. (Please leave the same when you leave...see below)
Heat/Air Conditioning: Please adjust the temperature for your comfort and set the air conditioning on 75° when you are ready to leave. If you have the heat on, please set it at the lowest possible temperature when you leave.
Internet: There is high speed internet and wifi. The password is 1513easy.
Trash Collection: This is on Wednesday mornings. Please put the big trash bin up by the road to get collected on Tuesday evening, and before you leave.
Showers: Please be sure that the shower head in the bathroom off the kitchen in turned away from the door when you turn it on to check the temperature. Otherwise it will spray you and the whole bathroom!
Furnishings: Feel free to move things around to make it comfortable for you. Kindly replace things to their original position before departure.
Washer and Dryer: Use these as much as you need. All we ask is that you do not put sandy bathing suits and towels directly into the dryer. The sand can easily break the dryer.

IF YOU WISH THE CLEANING CREW TO DO THE LINENS PLEASE DO NOT MAKE UP THE BEDS AND LEAVE A NOTE IF YOU CAN. THE CHARGE of $10 per load will be charged to you after your visit.
Departure cleaning: This is included in your rental money. All you have to do is make sure all the dishes are washed and put away, and that the linens and the furniture are back where they were when you arrived. Please empty the fridge also.
Emergency service: If anything breaks down please call American Home Shield () or if not covered, call Lindsay . If there is any problem with the cleanliness of the house when you arrive, please call Tracy Lawhon ().
Merlin’s cell phone number is …just in case you need me for something I haven’t thought of.
Favorite Places to Visit: Our absolutely favorite place is the Southern tip of the island. Drive past the stoplight and keep going till you can’t go any further. Turn left there and then right on Ocean Blvd. Turn right again down Godwin Avenue and then take the last left onto Shoreline Drive. At the end of that street is a small parking lot. Park there and then you can fish, swim, and walk all the way around the point of the island to the ocean…then you can walk back to the parking lot by using a public beach access in between the grey houses of Serenity Point. The walk takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Terrific place for bird watching!…especially at sunset.
Topsail Beach has a great bookshop –Quarter Moon, which also serves coffee and has internet access. There are now two coffee shops in Surf City- The Daily Grind and Hunga Bunga Java.
The Turtle Hospital is in in a new building on the mainland and is worth a visit. It is very crowded – so go early (before 2:00) or on Saturdays. Check to make sure it is open if it is off season. The Missiles and More Museum is in Topsail Beach and is located in the Assembly Rooms building.
Soundside Park, right by the swing bridge you drive across, has boat access, picnic spots, fishing places and is really nice, especially for sunsets and crabbing.
There is a high rise bridge in North Topsail Beach – Just turn right on New River Drive from the house. There is an amazing view of marsh islands under this extraordinary bridge. You can reach Snead’s Ferry for Deep Sea Fishing or restaurants from it. If you drive to the right before the bridge and go underneath it, you can also put a canoe or other boat in there.
If you turn right before the high rise bridge onto New River Inlet Drive, you can go to the Northern tip of the island. You can drive right onto the sand. Here the New River empties into the Ocean and it is pretty incredible…DO NOT SWIM HERE. It is deep and dangerous. In the distance you can see military ships from Camp Le Jeune. You can also see boats pass very close by as the channel is deep right near the end of the island. Fishing is really good here.
Check the guest directory for more ideas….Definitely visit Wilmington and Fort Fisher Aquarium if you want a day away from the island. There is also a plantation to visit – Poplar Grove Plantation in Hampstead on Route 17 on the way to Wilmington.
Restaurants: Daddy Mac’s near the Surf City Pier is excellent and has a great front porch with rockers overlooking the ocean. Also- The bakery about .5 mile down past the traffic light on your right is fantastic for excellent lunches…treats and fresh bread….Their coffee is good too! We love to walk into Surf City and have breakfast or lunch at the New York Corner Deli….Mainsail is another nice dinner restaurant.
Speaking of breakfast –across the high rise bridge at the first shopping area on your right is New York Bagel-great bagels, with all the trimmings. If you are a New Yorker –they even have bialys. Coffee is not too great. Sear’s Landing –just over the swing bridge is great and has a soundside porch with rockers.. In Snead’s Ferry the Riverview –on the New River –has great food and often music at night. Watch out for mosquitoes if you sit outside!
Laundry – we recommend that you start washing towels the night before you leave. The washer and dryer only really work well with half of the load being towels.
We hope you have an outstanding time in our home and on Topsail Island.
Best wishes – Merlin and the Sanders-Walberg family.
