Historic sunlit apartment completely restored as a relaxing retreat with 10ft ceiling and with beautiful views of the Monongahela Forest in Historic Downtown Thomas. Walk to the Purple Fiddle for live music, Tip Top for espresso & cocktails and stroll to art galleries. Great basecamp for Thomas, Davis and forests. Located directly above Front Street Grocers - you'll have access to delicious food, beer and wine for cooking in the open format kitchen.
This completely restored space is located on the 2nd floor of the Hoffman Building in the quaint, yet lively main drag of Thomas, WV. The mix of old and new material, salvaged and contemporary components, provide a truly unique space. The unobstructed 2nd floor view of the Monongahela National Forest makes this home feel like an urban treehouse. Right outside the door is the North Fork of the Blackwater River and access to miles and miles of trails in the National Forest.
While small, it is a complete home with a full kitchen, incredible bathroom with a 9 foot rain shower, cozy living room and a private bedroom with queen bed. If traveling with a larger group, the adjacent Downtime Apartment can be rented together (if both available) - making for a 2 bedroom, 2 kitchen, 2 living room, 2 bath setup. (NOTE: It's on a separate account, but will come up in a THOMAS, WV search). While each has its private entrance, the door in between the two spaces could be unlocked and opened to make one large space.
Guests will have sole and private access to the entire apartment.

Because this is our primary home, I will not be around when rented.
I split my time between Thomas, WV and Terlingua, TX near Big Bend National Park. That means it will be a self check-in / check-out reservation with a key code entry. I'll be available by phone, airbnb message center and email. A trusted neighbor will have the space immaculate for your arrival and always available should questions or concerns arise.
Make yourself at home. Relax. Enjoy the town and the forest. Those are direct orders.

I moved to Thomas, WV in 2015 from Austin, TX to start and explore a new life in small town community living and reengage in the beauty of the Appalachians and mountain life.
This area provides the time, spaces and affordability to slowly figure out your place and build something with others.
My partner and I recently purchased a 3 story mixed use commercial building on Front Street in Thomas and are currently working to update the building after many years of being vacant. Within the next year or two, we hope the entire building will be occupied and provide five customized spaces for people to work and/or live in. All of the spaces will be an exercise in space efficiency in an effort to enable density in our small town.
I think the monstrosity of homes today are lazy. They spread money thin, do not challenge creativity and enable folks to go so deep into debt they can't afford to personalize a home and allow it to be an expression of a lifestyle.
That said, this home is my exercise to rightsize living to what I need yet doing so without stripping myself of some of the treats and splurges that make all the hard work worth it. If you are looking at what can be done with a smaller home footprint, I hope you'll consider this little space as a trial.
I like homes with texture and color and I would like to see my home evolve into a space that feels like an old book store - full of conversations and tales of what has happened and could be.
We take a lot of pride in being a good host. A clean, safe and cozy place to stay is the anchor of any trip - so we'll do our best to do that by sharing our home and community with you.
