Our 18th century house provides access to the outdoor activities of the Forest of Dean and is near where the surf-board riders of the Severn Bore start. This large room with king sized bed and twin arm chairs has been recently renovated and has access to its own private bathroom with bath and large shower.
Our house is also our home, and we will be living here when our guests are visiting. We therefore expect our guests to treat it with respect and to remember that it is very old and therefore may have a tendency not to be absolutely perfect at all times. Both Deirdre and I work during the day so night time is precious to us - late night revelries will not be appreciated. The third member of our permanently resident family is a young yellow labrador called Islay. She is rather "girlsterous" as I call it so we will endeavour to keep her away from guests when they are in the communal parts of the house - she does not however go up stairs. If anyone does want to have a chat with her, we would be pleased to make an introduction.
For the comfort of guests generally, we have decided not to accept children, so our cut-off for guests is 16 years of age.

I am an unintentionally semi-retired ex-finance director - bit of a mouthful, I've never written that before! Having found myself at a bit of a loose end, the old "dream" of running a B&B came back so Deirdre, my wife, and I decided to give it a go. We have bought a characterful house in Newnham and spent about 18 months restoring it and are really looking forward to sharing it with our hoped-for guests.
I am in the process of obtaining a personal license and then a license for the building so that we an share our love of whisky. Deirdre is a MacLeod so it stands to reason she should like the stuff. I have no real claim on it other than that I love its many and varied forms.
Our favourite place to explore is Scotland, not wholly surprisingly, but we also love France and New Zealand. It might be fair to say we aren't exactly experienced world travellers, but I have been to Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia amongst other places in former jobs and we would love to visit in particular Latin America in the future.
We are both music lovers, Deirdre being more classical and me more folk and rock. Nowadays you can track the stuff down pretty much anywhere but we do aspire to a Scottish music festival drinking whisky on a sandy beech - well, we can dream.
We want to welcome people to our home, rather than have them come to somewhere that feels like a formal leisure destination. I love cooking and you will be treated to assorted biscuits and cakes and breakfasts made from the best quality local ingredients we can lay our hands on. We hope that you will leave feeling that we could not have done more to make you feel welcome, and I intend to live up to my personal motto - never knowingly under-catered.
