O ovom smještaju
In the heart of Hokitika. 1min to the beach and river. 5mins walk to bars, restaurants and shops. A historic little cottage full of character and charm. A typical Kiwi bach - not modern, not fancy but definitely interesting!
One minute walk to the stunning beach. 2mins to the river and Sunset Point. 5mins to all bars, museum, theater, restaurants and shops. The perfect spot to holiday beside the beach and still be right in the heart of town.
Crooked Mile Cottage is nearly 100 years old. It is a traditional New Zealand wooden bungalow. It is built on the original site of the historic Cafe de Paris. Many of the original features remain including the little galley kitchen.
This is NOT a shiny new, modern house. If you don't enjoy the character of old houses then this won't be the right place for you. If you are overly fussy and fancy, it may not be a good fit but if you want a low key place by the sea where beach walks and sunsets are valued, this could be just what you are looking for.
NOTE: The house can sleep 9 comfortably but there is only 1 bathroom.
**You will not be charged the security deposit unless there is damage caused**
Please note: Infants do not stay for free. Please include them in your total as a child or adult. We provide beds/crib and toys for infants.
Plenty of parking.
The cosy lounge/dinning area is small but functional with woodburner for heating in winter. (If you do not know how to use an indoor fire, please do not book).
* Make sure you note our house rules and read the full description.
There is a large backyard suitable for BBQs and outdoor dining. It is fully fenced.
There are books and toys provided for children.
The house can be a little cold in winter so most beds have electric blankets for warmth.
The kitchen is stocked with tea/coffee/sugar. Rice cooker, microwave etc. Just bring your own food and cook a meal or eat out at one of Hokitika's great restaurants.
What can you do while here?
* A drive out to Lake Kaniere then on to Hokitika Gorge.
* A walk along the wild beach, check out the amazing driftwood sculptures then a fresh-fruit ice-cream from Sweet Alice's.
* Fish and chips at Sunset Point and watch the sun go down
* Drive to the pancake rocks at Punakaiki
* At night, visit the glow worm dell
* A glass of wine at Stumpers Bar
* Light a campfire on the beach.
* Wander the historic town, visit the museum and learn about our fascinating town.
* Shop at one of the many jade galleries or spend a day carving your own piece at Bonz n' Stonz.

Guests have access to the house and number of bedrooms required (as per people booked) and garden except the locked supply room. There is plenty of guest parking. This is an old house. It has it's quirks but it is clean and has been freshly decorated. Please don't expect a modern/new house. The kitchen is small and original so there is no space for a dishwasher. You will have to wash dishes the old fashioned way- in the sink!
Not all of the windows are meant to open.
In winter you will need to know how to use a woodburner fire.

Please do not take bath towels to the beach.

Do not strip the beds. I will do that for you.
Please do not remove anything from the property that does not belong to you.

We have lived in Hokitika for the past 10 years. We enjoy good music and good food.
We have both traveled extensively.
We absolutely love living here in Hokitika. It has a wonderful community - we are a really eclectic bunch. The scenery is wild and stunning and the history is fascinating.
As well as taking care of our farm, I also work part-time on a large dairy farm. My husband works for an IT company from home (unfortunately he is very busy with his job, so you probably won't meet him). Our house is a busy place. When I'm not working on the farm, I'm usually busy in the kitchen making preserves or cooking so be prepared if the kitchen looks a bit chaotic. We look forward to meeting our guests and are always happy to help you plan activities here on the West Coast - rain or shine - it is a fantastic place to be.
