Our overall experience at Anna’s was disappointing, and we cannot recommend this place. Our main issue was with Anna’s attitude.
We inquired whether it was possible to use the kitchen two months before arriving, but Anna never replied. Since it was not stated in her listing (she will, of course, claim it was), we assumed there would be no problem with basic cooking and booked anyway. Two days before we arrived and after three messages sent, Anna finally replied to inform us that it was “impossible” to use the kitchen or the washing machine. We told her this was important to us and that she should’ve made it clear before. When pushed to provide a solution, her reply was “I’m sorry, you are only paying 20 euros”.
When we finally got to her place, she gave us a 1-minute introduction and then went to sleep. She gave us no information whatsoever on the neighborhood, places of interest, transportation, restaurants, laundries, etc. She could’ve, for example, informed us there were plenty of laundries in the neighborhood.
Her 1-minute introduction turned out to be all the interaction we would have for the next 5 days. She wouldn’t acknowledge us when we crossed in the hallway (something mentioned by previous guests), and didn’t once in 5 days ask if we needed anything or were doing fine. Not even an earthquake in Rome on our last night there prompted her to inquire about our well-being.
Our impression of Anna is that she needs the income provided by guests, but doesn’t really want to have people staying there. Great hosts usually go out of their way to accommodate you, or at least they are friendly and polite. Don’t expect any of that with Anna. She has absolutely no interest in accommodating guests nor does she have any interest in you and your comfort, perhaps because, as she herself states “you are only paying 20 euros”. Anna should at least TRY (as I told her via message) to help guests with their needs. The only reason we stayed was because of the cancellation policy.
So what do you get for your money? A dim lit room with a dirty floor (although there is a 10€ cleaning charge) and the shared use of an untidy bathroom. Wifi is poor and barely reaches the room. As stated by previous guests, the flat is not located where stated, but a couple of kilometers away.
Do yourself a favor and look for a nicer place, there are plenty of better listings for equally low prices in Pigneto, which is a great area of Rome to stay in.
