The "hobby barn", which my late husband built to restore antique coffee mills, has been turned into a charming home that is totally set up to accommodate the needs of families, couples and business travelers. Mill House is spacious, quiet, relaxing, and dog friendly. Surrounded by Kennesaw Mtn. Nat. Battlefield Park, my 6 1/2-acre mini-farm is a peaceful escape haven. TESLA charger available on site. Historic Marietta is 5 min. E; Atlanta is 25 min. S; LakePointe Sporting Comm. is 23 min. N.
Downstairs guests enjoy a large living area with three sofas, game table, and flat screen TV; a fully set-up kitchen; and a gracious dining area that will accommodate 6-8 guests. Two bedrooms and a bath are located upstairs. Both beds (a queen and a full) are extremely comfortable with memory foam mattress toppers. The bath has a tub/ shower combo with handicapped optional seating.
An inviting front porch features bent-wood rockers at one end and a glass-topped dining table seating up to four guests at the other end. Out back is a large fenced yard overlooking the horse pasture and tennis court that is ideal for children, adults, and dogs. Shaded in the summer by foliage from "living fossils," a Gingko and a pair of Dawn Redwoods, this inviting area beckons guests into the out-of-doors. A fire pit with kindling and hardwood; a hammock and a covered swing; a picnic table, bench, and chairs complete the outdoor package.
Guests are welcome to walk the trails on my property or hike the 21-miles of trails on and around the Kennesaw Mountains. They are welcome to play tennis and use the tennis backboard for practice. Badminton can also be set up on the tennis court. There are two basketball hoops as well... one set low for pint-size players and one regulation height. (Due to safety concerns, however, children should not enter the horse pasture to retrieve balls or birdies.) There are ample balls in the sport's house adjoining the court.

You will usually find either my son Ed or me on the property. If you will give us a head's up that you have arrived, one or both of us will walk down to greet you in person. We are always only a cell phone call away to answer any questions you might have.
When you book, I will send you a map with precise directions. Just don't get sent to the wrong Old Mountain Road. Yes, there are TWO roads with the same name, the same Zip Codes, and same cross streets in Cobb County. Mine is the Old Mountain Road inside the National Park at the western base of Little Kennesaw Mountain, not the Old Mountain Road five miles to the west at Lost Mountain.
The first rule is for you to enjoy your stay in this inviting home and let Ed or me know if you have any concerns or unmet needs. We want you to make use of all the amenities the property has to offer. We would appreciate it if you would refrain from smoking inside the house. We welcome all dogs... small, large or gargantuan... as long as they are housebroken and are free of fleas. However, since one of my most loyal guests is highly allergic to cat dander, I want to keep this property feline-free. (The single bedrooms at Ed's house... Room with a View and Master Bedroom... can easily accommodate cats.) One last rule: For the safety of both people and livestock, guests and their pets are not allowed in either pasture. (Horses are unpredictable and dogs' instincts to chase chickens are almost uncontrollably strong.)

I was born in the American South in 1938 when girls were trained to be "ladies" and segregation was the norm. Today I find it impossible to limit or prejudge people due to their skin color, their religion or lack thereof, their politics, marital status, age, sex, or sexual orientations. Life has changed me greatly and I like the person I have become.
I was married for almost fifty years to my late husband, a brilliant chemist and collector of antiques. We were a good match. I am now a 78-year old widow who continues to enjoy life to the fullest with an open heart and open doors. As a former host mother for international students, I have "sons and daughters" in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, and Venezuela. The world is my family!
Son Ed lives in a separate home on my six-acre mini-farm and helps me maintain the property. He is a computer guru, a master gardener, and speaks fluent Spanish as well as a bit of French, Japanese and Portuguese. I am limited to smiling and nodding in anything but English. My hobbies are baking homemade breads, entertaining, gardening, and reading. Both Ed and I thoroughly enjoy welcoming new friends into our lives through Airbnb.
My beliefs formed through hosting are as follows:
•Trust becomes easier the more it is practiced.
•Enduring friendships come in unexpected places.
•Laughter is universal.
