Temba Tsheri Sherpa set the world record as the youngest person to ever reach the summit of Mount Everest when he ascended the highest peak in the world on May 23, 2001. Born on May 9, 1985 as the second child to Chhwwa Sherpa and Lakpa Diki Sherpa in a remote village (Tasinam Village of Gaurishankar VDC) of Dolakha district, he became a world celebrity, when the news of his conquest travelled around the globe.
Born to a middle class family, he had decided to follow the footsteps of his ancestors when he was just a school boy. Despite losing five of his finger (three on right, and two on left) while attempting a climb atop Mount Everest from the South col (Nepal) a year earlier, he did not give up. That only motivated him further to exude courage and endurance, and finally at a tender age of 16, he was able to reach on the Top of the World.
Sherpa is now the Founder and Managing Director of Sherpa Khangri Outdoor, a trekking and expedition agency based in Panipokhari, Kathmandu. Sherpa who completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wuhan university of China, is a professional climber and promoter of tourism business. He is currently in the mission of climbing the Seven Summits (the highest peak in each continent) and has already scaled the Kilimanjaro (Africa), Elbrus (Europe) and Denali (North America). He is presently engaged in efforts aimed at combating impact of climate change and global warming.
Sherpa and his organization is building a reputation in the tourism industry for making successful arrangements for expeditions to peaks above 8000 meters, at home and abroad. Honored by Government of Nepal as a ‘Goodwill Ambassador of Nepal Tourism year 2011’, he has also been nominated as a Brand Promoter for different companies within and outside the country.
