Our character farmhouse in rural Auvergne can accommodate up to 6 people in four bedrooms. The rustic house has modern conveniences and delightful outdoor spaces as well. The village is quiet and the view is sublime.
Imagine a hidden paradise in the heart of the French countryside, where life is filled with simple pleasures: delicious food, fine wines and a secluded garden full of sunshine. Just a few hours south of Paris, this farmhouse is a true idyllic retreat, located in a tiny village that is nestled in a lush green valley. This rural part of France encourages a pace of life that allows for dreaming, relaxing and reconnecting with yourself and with others. Life flows with the rhythm of the days, eddies around meals, and pools deep and clear during late-night conversations under the brilliant stars. It’s a place to think and breathe.
The rustic main house has three bedrooms and one bathroom and the garden cabin has the fourth bedroom. All beds are extremely comfortable - there are two queen+ beds in two of the bedrooms, a set of bunkbeds in the attic, and a large single bed (or small double) in the garden cabin. The bathroom has a toilet, sink and shower.
The kitchen is excellently equipped for all your cooking needs. Our kitchen pantry is stocked with spices, vinegars, oil, tea and other basics. We just ask that if you use something up, you replace it. The kitchen is country style and basic, with a four-burner gas stove and oven, a half-sized fridge and a small table (seats 4 - 6), but it is well-equipped with a variety of saucepans, serving platters and dishes, as well as utensils and a dishwasher. We have catered for up to 14 people with this equipment, so it should be fine for your friends and family!
In the attic is a sitting area with a couch and comfortable chairs. There is a large library of excellent literary titles (mostly in English, some in French). The farmhouse is now equipped with wifi internet access (no computer available). We have a TV that is only hooked up as a screen to a DVD player (no channels via antenna or cable). There is a small DVD library with about 25 titles.
In the private garden, there is a large table, parasol, comfortable chairs, a barbecue, and a 180 degree view of the valley and the woods across the way. There are also many villages and towns of interest to explore in the area, many of which have shops, restaurants and outdoor markets.

We don't live on or near the property. Guests will have use of the entire house on their own (no overlapping guests). The house is cleaned and prepared by a nearby friend who also can act as an on-location troubleshooter if necessary, otherwise the owners can be reached by phone or email.
Guests may see the gardener come from time to time to tidy up the outside. He is very friendly!
We expect the guests to treat this property as if it were their own house - keep it clean and tidy. We ask for no smoking inside, and if you smoke outside or on the patio, please dispose of cigarette butts appropriately.
We are Caitlin MacRae and Marianne de Kleer, two friends and colleagues who share a love for France. We have travelled all over the world and are passionate about the connections and experiences that come from exploring different cultures. Our dream has been to create an opportunity for others to experience the joys of the French countryside – one of our favourite places in the world.
In 2000, we bought an ‘ensemble’ of buildings in St Privat du Dragon. In other words we bought an old farmhouse property with all the buildings necessary for farming – in our case, three adjoining houses, barn, stables, sheds, even a pig shed, (though luckily no pig!). These buildings were in various states of repair, with the main house almost immediately habitable. A few years of renovations later, our Farmhouse was ready for its first guests. Our buildings are located within the village, but have a beautiful, unobstructed south-facing view of the valley. The other houses and barns in the village are mostly operational farms, and the farmers take their cows out to the surrounding pastures each morning.
Since we bought the house in 2000, our families, friends and guests have visited and enthusiastically shared in our dream, enjoying: wine-tasting, shopping for antiques at local markets, visiting châteaux & medieval churches, walking & biking in the beautiful countryside, practicing French, savouring fresh produce and local specialties, and especially relaxing with a glass of wine in the secluded garden, delighting in the beautiful view.
