Period features remain with double-hung windows, Federal-style open staircase and fireplaces, while up-to-date furnishings bring contemporary comfort. A charming house filled with character and history for you to enjoy, just be patient with her quirks! The Rachel Dumond House is one of the Stockade District's oldest post and beam constructions. This Dutch vernacular home features 12"-18" wide board floors, wavy glass pane windows, hand-planed doors, and a Federal-style open staircase. The outdoor patio is bordered by a historic bluestone drywall - a charming backdrop for the enclosed natural backyard that provides refuge for birds and wildlife. We hope you will make yourself at home! While so much of what Kingston has to offer is conveniently located within walking distance, we hope that once you step inside, you will find a space where you can retreat from the world. The 2300 sq ft. house is the perfect backdrop for pared-back simplicity and we have kept our design elegantly minimal, peaceful and tranquil. The furniture is inspired by the functionality and form of mid-century modern. Please have patience as we work on the kinks as she's an old house. LIVING ROOMS - The downstairs living room is our intimate and cozy 'drawing room', where guests can entertain. You can sit in front of the fireplace, listen to records and lounge on the sectional. - The upstairs living room is our 'den'. The room is bright and airy and includes a built-in desk. If you prefer to relax, you can sit on the XL beanbag and watch tv via Apple TV. KITCHEN/DINING Our dinner table comfortably sits 6 and you will find the kitchen is equipped with a microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and even a Breville Air convection oven for versatile cooking. There is also a new dishwasher and gas range. There is a dinner setting provided for 8. BEDROOMS We have 3 rooms: 2 large bedrooms - one downstairs and one upstairs. There is also a smaller bedroom upstairs. All bedrooms have a queen bed, either a closet or clothes rack to hang clothes, lamps and nightstands. BATHROOMS The main bathroom upstairs is large and bright. It features a shower, new toilet, and a cupboard where you can find a hair dryer, iron & mini ironing board and extra towels. Shampoo, Conditioner, and Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Soap are provided. The downstairs ensuite has a fresh coat of paint and a new toilet. The bath has not yet been updated, but showers are ok. READING NOOK It's the smallest room with the best views of the street. LAUNDRY We have a new washer and dryer in the basement. You will have access to most of the house - there is a backyard, and laundry in the basement. However we discourage guests from going into other parts of the basement as it is unfinished. There is space for one car in the driveway next to the house. Our main interaction will be via messaging on Airbnb. The house is located on a quiet tree-lined street near the Stockade District's historic corner of stone houses – now a bar and bookstore. Kingston's burgeoning uptown district with its vibrant restaurants, cafes, and shops is a short stroll away. Conveniently located less than a 5 minute walk from the bus station.
