Robert en Francia gave us an amazing experience at their finca in the mountains around Cali. It is perhaps the most versatile Airbnb experience I've ever had. Robert and Francia arranged a private driver (in exchange for additional costs, but it was a very reasonable price) to pick us up at our location in Cali. The views on the way were very nice. At the location we got a tour in Spanish about all the different plants, trees and fruits that grow at the finca. It was really insightful as we are Europeans and didn't know many of them well (lula, black corn) or haven't seen them grow in nature (banana tree as the most obvious example). Then Robert took us for a hike to the magnificent waterfall, through wild and fairly unexplored terrain. We got to discuss many aspects about living in such a remarkable place, it taught me a lot about Colombia as a country. Robert is an open guy with a good English. After a swim at the waterfall we hiked back (amazing views!) and had a good lunch with local products. Don't expect an official tour on a tight schedule, but a real off the beaten track experience for those who really want to discover how life at a finca looks like, and want to learn a lot about Colombian culture, nature and history.

absolutely AMAZING. it far exceeded our expectations! the ride there ran a little late and is a little bumpy but it’s free, and the view on the way up the mountain is breathtaking! when you get there you will be met by Robert who speaks fluent spanish and english. him and is wife are super knowledgeable about the terrain, the culture, and self-sustainability. this was such an educational trip! they brought us to their beautiful home on the mountain side, explain all the plant based medicine and food that they grow and use daily. the hike is down a kinda rough trail but the waterfall is worth it and so is the view along the way! we came back to a fully prepared meal made by Robert’s wife, Francie. that was the best meal i’ve had since being in colombia, and it was made by ingredients in the garden! if you are the outdoors type, you DO NOT want to miss this experience. by far my favorite experience and it’s lead by 2 amazing host. plus it supports a great cause! I actually felt a little bad that they did so much and it cost so little. they never asked for tips and genuinely gave it their best so i couldn’t help but leave them a little extra. i’m sure you’ll want to do the same:) overall, it it cost twice as much id still do it again. great trip, great people, great experience:) definitely worth it. p.s. if you like cheese, ask Robert about his. it’s phenomenal!

It was a great experience. I felt immerse in Robert's explanation of the area and his experience. I was also able to meet some great friends of Roberts. The waterfall was amazing.

This was one of the most confusing experiences I've had through Airbnb. First off, it isn't clear on here that 90% of the time on this trip is not on the actual property of the Eco/Biodiversity Farm, it's hiking through public forests, somebody's personal property, finally to the farm and the rest is going downhill on a public paved road back to town to catch the bus. The day starts by meeting at a bread shop to take a public jeep-style bus 45 minutes into the mountains. They incorrectly told us to meet at 7am for a 7:40am bus, when in reality the bus left at 7am (there was no room when we arrived) so we had to wait until the next bus at 8:40am. We had also expected a guide who spoke English, as the experience states English and Spanish, and all prior communications were in English. Because of the bus incident, our experience lasted from 7am-4pm, but it really could have been done by noon if we had not missed our bus and did not need to go as slow as our guide wanted to. Martha was perfectly nice but in no way a professional guide and didn't speak a single word of English (or if she does, she didn't try at all with us). She even left us at the waterfall to eat lunch with people she ran into. She was too busy to take a simple photo of us so we had to ask other visitors. She did the hike with her phone in hand and stopped whenever there was service to text, which also completely stopped the hike. Also stopped along houses or shops to catch up with friends as we stood there waiting to continue the walk. My boyfriend and I were fed up with it towards the end and would continue on without her as she stayed behind to text or chat. It probably ended up costing us at least 45 minutes. We arrived for lunch at the biodiversity location which consisted of boiled vegetables and a slab of meat. We were fine with it but it's good to set expectations. When we finished lunch, we were ready to head back but it seemed Martha was in charge of babysitting the other woman's daughter, and we weren't allowed to leave. It was truly baffling. The unprofessional aspect may have been bearable if we hadn't started the day waiting for almost two hours, could hike at a reasonable pace and didn't need to delay our day to babysit. They have the ingredients for an incredible experience but need to trim the fat. Have the accurate bus schedule, assure there's no waiting around for the guide, and in general be more diligent with the schedule.
