Let's make traditional Icelandic slátur! On a beautiful farm just outside of Reykjavík, you will learn the art of preparing, cooking and eating the most authentic food known to Icelanders: "slátur" in Icelandic. There are two types of slátur: blood pudding (blóðmör) and liver sausage (lifrarpylsa). The preparing of slátur is a messy, but entertaining affair. The ingredients for slátur are sheep's blood, chopped or minced sheep's fat, sheep's liver, oatmeal and whole milk amongst other things. You will mix the ingredients together, then provided with a 'boiling bag' for you to pour the ingredients into and sew it shut. Finally, we will put the bags into a pot and let it boil for an hour. While our Slátur is boiling, we will also be tasting other traditional Icelandic food like a fermented shark, rye bread, dried fish and sheeps pate amongst other things. We will walk around the area and meet the animals. You will get to hold and/or pet most of the animals and feed the horses with fresh grass. Finally, we sit down to eat the food we prepared and enjoy this unique environment together. You will leave with a full belly and more insights into the culinary practices of Iceland.

I was born and raised in Iceland and like most Icelanders I have been making liver sausage and blood pudding since I was a little kid. After traveling to 28 countries and taking cooking classes in most of them I realized that what people want more than anything is authentic experiences. I cant think of anything more authentic to Iceland than preparing and cooking this kind of food on an Icelandic farm around beautiful Icelandic nature.
