Explore the magic of making sound effects with a working Hollywood Foley artist. This experience begins with a quick overview on the art of Foley, its importance in TV and film, and how it’s the coolest job in the world. I’ll discuss what it’s like to create and perform organic sounds for major studios like Disney, Netflix, Sony, and Warner Bros.
You’ll then virtually tour my home studio in Los Angeles. This is where I record Foley for dozens of TV shows (Atlanta, Glow, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, New Girl, and many more). It’s also where I host an Airbnb Experience with 185 5-star reviews: https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/70986. After the studio tour, I’ll go through the gear we use to record and show you my vast prop collection. You’ll get to see all the shoes I use for footsteps (high heels included!), plus all the odd things we use to recreate other sounds.
Next, I'll walk you through how to add Foley to an actual short film, including how to layer sounds to make something sound perfect. Find out what we use for snow footsteps, wing flaps, chip chomps, thunder, and more. (Spoiler alert: We use celery for bone breaks!) Learn how it’s all recorded and put into sync. Then we’ll play it all back, and you’ll be amazed by how a Foley artist can turn a film into a masterpiece.
