This three hour experience takes you through all the basics of welding. We spend time discussing safety and proper equipment use. We demonstrate techniques and proper shop etiquette. Then you'll get the chance to run beads and make sparks. We want you to leave with a real sense of what it means to weld and a better understanding of the process. We guarantee that you leave with a confidence you didn't know you had. Each guest can also choose from variety of small crafts to complete and take home as a memento of your newly found skill.
Other things to note
Please wear appropriate attire. Closed toe shoes and long pants are required to participate in the experience. Must be able to make travel arrangements to and from Metalwood Salvage.

Metalwood Salvage has a mission to demystify the process of welding. We want to show you that you can do it too! Then take this new found knowledge and put it to uses building and being creative. We hope by getting this knowledge out there we can encourage people to be more resourceful and fix items they might previously thrown away. Or buy some second hand items and remake or up-cycle them in a cool creative way. Having the ability to manipulate metal can take a persons crafting skills through the roof. So, come learn a new skill and have some fun while you do!

The class is held in our fabrication department of Metalwood Salvage. It's not every day you get access to a working fabrication shop. Come see the sights and get one of a kind access to this inspiring work space. We have built out the class space with five working welding booths. You may also have the opportunity to work with larger metal cutting tools available in the shop.

What a fun time! Janette was SUPER knowledgeable! Instruction time was quick and we got to weld (safely!) within the first hour. Janette was very personable and made us all feel really comfortable about hopping right in and welding. We even got to go home with fun stuff we made. It’s not very good stuff, but you know for 2 hours of welding experience it’s pretty cool. The quality of our artwork is no reflection of the quality of the instruction. They even offer more advanced classes.

This class was great. I would recommend for anyone wanting to learn to weld. Went into the class with no experience and worried about actually welding. By the time the class was over I had learned different techniques, the machines, different kinds of welding, safety, and proper protective gear. I was able to practice on a bunch of scrap metal and then make some cool things. Janette was great to work with and I enjoyed her teaching, patience, storytelling, and guidance during the class.

Janette is an expert and could clearly explain every detail of welding from spot welding to creating small metal art pieces. I went with someone who had experience while I had none, and she was able to teach both of us simultaneously without anyone feeling left out. I was intimidated when I began, but I ended the experience with a new found love of welding.

The welding experience was great! Janette took care to explain everything to me, from safety to equipment to techniques, had me practice and advised on how I did. She genuinely cared to make it a great experience for me and help me both develop a new skill and show off all the unique raw materials they work with and the kind of art they produce from it.
