People who aren't familiar with New York and furthermore the Bronx are quick to think they know how it is here which is ignorant. It's completely safe here. Don't take my word for it, read all my guests reviews! The perception of the 1980's is long gone and it's a completely different day and age. When the weather is nice, you'll see kids in the playground, people jogging, playing baseball and soccer, people having a picnic or birthday parties, people walking their dogs, an ice cream man selling ice cream (helados), plenty of benches to people watch or just chill during the warm seasons of the year—a great New York vibe. The home of the world famous New York Yankee's and their baseball stadium is located here and this area is also known the official birth place of Hip-Hop. During baseball season, there's plenty of baseball games at Yankee Stadium so the neighborhood has an extra special energy and excitement. If you're here during the season, I strongly suggest going to a game. You can get tickets as cheap as $7 for one person. Since then, the City of New York has invested heavily and has transformed this neighborhood into a safe and wonderful neighborhood by building the Bronx Terminal Market shopping mall 10 minutes away from my home, opening new restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe, preserving new parks like the one across the street from my building, and making the local community safe and a great place to live.
Within a 5 minute walk: Starbucks, Chipotle Mexican restaurant, laundromats, McDonalds, 99cent stores, an awesome diner that's open 24-Hours a day right by the subway called Crown Diner (a favorite of my guests), Target, Best Buy, Marshall's, CVS and Walgreens drug store, Hard Rock Café, beauty stores, Latin Restaurants, clothing stores, Staples, Popeye's Chicken, Dunkin' Donuts, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, Saborros Pizza Chinese Restaurants numerous supermarkets and bodegas, post office, Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, a movie theatre and the Bronx Museum. Directly across the street is a Joyce Kilmer Park providing a nice atmosphere no matter what the season of year.
If you have a car, there is plenty of free street parking--just be sure to read the signs so you don't receive a parking ticket. None of my guests has ever had a problem finding a parking space around the building. You also have the option to pay for parking during your stay if you like too. There are plenty of 24 hour garages in my neighborhood to choose from because of the close proximity to Yankee Stadium.
The Subway in NY is open 24 hours a day. The price for a 7-Day Metrocard (subway pass) is $32 and provides unlimited use of both the subway and buses. Definitely worth the money. It will definitely pay for itself during your many sightseeing adventures or you can add any denomination of credit and pay as you go at $2.75 per ride (more expensive).
LaGuardia Airport: approximately a 25-30 minute taxi ride depending on the time of day, weather and traffic conditions. By public transportation it's a combination of the bus to the subway and takes about an hour which is really easy, convenient and highly recommended.
JFK Airport: approximately 40-45 minute taxi ride depending on the time of day, weather and traffic conditions. By public transportation approximately
2 - 2.5 hours and it's actually quite easy and the CHEAPEST way. About 85% of my guests use this method and I do too when I fly out of JFK.
Newark Airport: the best option is public transportation which takes approximately 2 - 2.5 hours. It's actually quite fast and the cheapest option. I have used this method many times since I always travel internationally out of Newark.
Megabus-Manhattan bus stops: 30 minutes by subway.
34th Street & Port Authority: 30 minutes by subway.
As you can see, I'm a very experienced and caring host and I know how to make sure you're comfortable and get the most out of your New York adventure. Please contact me with any further questions.
Excited to make your holiday to the Big Apple unforgettable!
